Walking guide shares over 70 places to ramble in Donegal

A new initiative aims to encourage people to ‘Walk, Talk and Connect’ and enjoy our beautiful county over the June bank holiday weekend.

The DLDC’s ‘‘Time (out) for Tea’’ project focuses on supporting and encouraging people to re-engage with each other, meet up for a walk and enjoy the outdoors.

The COVID 19 pandemic has had a negative impact on our lives and has left many people feeling lonely and socially isolated. Therefore, in light of restrictions lifting it is particularly important for people to reconnect with each other. DLDC hope that by providing maps and details of areas for leisurely walks across Donegal (click here) and by providing some community representatives with picnic backpacks we will encourage people to meet up outdoors.

To encourage people to get out walking DLDC has provided a limited number of backpacks to individuals via a network of community partners. Those receiving the packs are being asked to take the lead, reach out and invite family, friends, colleagues and communities to join them on a walk and take ‘time (out) for tea’ outdoors.

The backpacks contain all you will need to have a picnic including a flask, cutlery, plates etc. Therefore, you need only pack your food before heading out to enjoy ‘Time (out) for Tea’.

Also included in the pack is literature and maps of developed and maintained walks, parks and outdoor amenities across Donegal which you could explore. Inga Bock, Rural Recreation Officer for Donegal has provided an extensive range of maps that will assist people to discover new scenic walks and areas throughout the county that they have previously not explored.

To make the information accessible to everyone, all information, maps and materials are available online to download onto your mobile phone for use when out and about.

Click on the following link to download a copy of the Time for Tea leaflet where you can access all of the materials online: https://dldc.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/117266-DLDC-Time-for-Tea-v2-1.pdf

You can also click onto a selection of the walks on the DLDC Website www.dldc.org

To promote the project DLDC is giving away 1 backpack each day from Monday the 31st of May until Friday the 4th June. To enter and be in with a chance of winning a backpack please log on to the DLDC Facebook page and comment with your favourite walk and tag who you would like to take on your picnic.

Happy walking everybody!
