Donegal people have added another €50,000 to the Relay for Life tally it has built up for cancer research over the past nine years.
The normally lively event at the LYIT had to go virtual once again this year because of the Covid pandemic.
But that certainly didn’t stop the fundraising.
Relay’s Robert O’Connor told Donegal Daily that at last another €50,000 has been added to help cancer research.
He said “It was virtual because of Covid but that didn’t stop the donations flooding in.
“We estimate we have already raised €50,000 this weekend and that will go up in the coming days. It’s another amazing effort by the people of Donegal.”
Robert said that all thoughts turn to next year’s event which will be the 10th Relay for Life.
Robert added “Please God we will be able to host it because it’s our tenth event and we want it to be a special one.
“We have a lot of plans and we hope it’s going to be our biggest Relay for Life yet.”
He added that while adding another €50,000 to the pot for cancer research was amazing, getting the message out there was equally important.
He added “Daniel O’Donnell said in his concert on Saturday night that the money was great but raising awareness of cancer research was as equally important.
“I couldn’t agree with him more. We must continue to raise awareness of the fight against cancer and the amazing research work that is being done.”
