A baby has been killed following a dog attack in Waterford this morning.
The three month old baby girl was in her bedroom in the village of Clashmore when the incident happened.
The toddler sustained massive head injuries during the attack.
Emergency services attended the scene and treated the baby girl before bringing her by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, reports RTE.
However, she was pronounced dead shortly after 3.15am.
Gardaí in Dungarvan are investigating the fatal incident, which happened at a house in Clashmore in Co Waterford.
In a statement, they said: “Gardaí and paramedics treated the infant at the scene until she was taken to Cork University Hospital. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.”
The scene has been preserved and members of the Garda Technical Bureau are expected to carry out an examination later today.
A post-mortem will be carried out on the body of the child at Cork University Hospital.
