Grieving dad Andrew McGinley ‘pleased’ with first HSE meeting

Andrew McGinley has said he is pleased after meeting with the HSE to discuss his wife’s treatment and care.

Andrew’s wife Deirdre Morley was last month found not guilty by reason of insanity of the murders of the couple’s three children, Conor (9), Darragh (7) and Carla (3) in Dublin in January 2020.

Ms Morley (aged 44) was yesterday committed to the Central Mental Hospital for further inpatient treatment.

Last month, Andrew made a public call for a meeting with the HSE to seek an independent review into his wife’s diagnosis and treatment. The meeting took place on Tuesday morning.

“I’m pleased with that preliminary meeting and the commitments the HSE made,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I have advised the HSE that the exact same meeting needs to be conducted with Deirdre and her counsel.”

Following last month’s trial, Mr McGinley commented: “As outlined in the medical expert reports, Deirdre’s diagnosis prior to the children’s deaths is different to her diagnosis now. With the cooperation of the HSE Mental Health Services I hope we will be able to understand why as the HSE Mental Health Services were responsible for Deirdre’s diagnosis, treatment and medication and she was in their professional care.”

Andrew has been keeping memories of their children alive through three separate projects – A YouTube channel is dedicated to Conor called ‘Conor’s Clips’ and a colouring competition has been established for Carla- www.snowmanforcarla.ie. The charity project As Darragh Did was set up to encourage people to join projects in their communities.
