TIGHTER restrictions are expected to be imposed on people arriving into Ireland from Britain.
The Irish Government is monitoring case numbers and examining the threat posed by the Delta variant.
Unvaccinated passengers coming into Ireland from Britain may now have to quarantine for a longer perlod.
At the moment, people arriving from Britain have to quarantine at home, but the five-day period may now be extended.
“The numbers are concerning and we need to do what we can within reason to do what we can to protect people here,” Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said on RTÉ’s This Week.
“I don’t want to announce anything today but we are looking at this seriously…Potentially longer quarantine periods particularly for people who aren’t vaccinated.”
Mr Coveney said he has spoken to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and new recommendations are likely.
He added: “We need to do what we can to make sure, within reason, that we do that we slow down the spread of that variant into Ireland at an absolute minimum.”Tags:
