Judge gives charity shop valuable engagement ring

June 14, 2021

A JUDGE has directed that an engagement ring valued at €1,000 be given to a charity.

The ring has been in the possession of Donegal Gardaí since July 2007.

It was given to Donegal Gardaí after being found in an unoccupied house.

After carrying out enquiries, Gardai sent a notice to the last-known address of the person believed to be the owner.

An ID card and a wallet were also handed in at the same time.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Buncrana District Court that the items were ‘gathering dust’ in the Garda Station.

Judge Alan Mitchell ordered the destruction of the ID card and donated the ring and wallet to Saint Vincent De Paul in Buncrana.

“Hopefully they maximise the value and don’t put it on sale for €20,” Judge Mitchell said.
