Scoil Cholmcille Drumman Ramelton welcomed a very special guest to raise their very first Amber flag.

Irish international footballer Amber Barrett was in town to congratulate the pupils on their great achievement.

The Amber Flag award is presented to schools who make a conscious effort to promote and improve the well-being and mental health of their school community.

Sport has always been known for its physical benefits but sport participation can also positively affect your mental health. Therefore it was only fitting to have a sporting star such as Amber raise the Amber flag.

A school spokesperson said: “We began the process at the beginning of the academic year by setting up an Amber Flag committee. The committee along with our amber flag co-ordinator Mrs Mc Gee worked hard throughout the year to organize events such as our fundraiser for Pieta House where all students wore the colour amber to raise awareness for mental health.

“Well done to the whole school community for taking part and supporting our pupils with this project and thank you to Amber for joining us on this momentous occasion. “
