Jason Quigley moves up the rankings, targets Andrade

JASON Quigley has his eyes firmly focussed on WBO world middleweight champion Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade.

Quigley has moved up to number 11 in the latest WBO world rankings, jumping from 14 after his recent win over Shane Mosley Jr, a victory that captured the NABO middleweight title.

The majority decision win in Las Vegas  also saw the Andy Lee-trained fighter move from 15 to 12 in the WBC’s rankings.

Now 19-1 (14KOs) as a professional, Quigley wants to keep rising those ranks – and wants a title at Andrade’s belt.

“A fight with Andrade is possible,” the Ballybofey man said.

“Let’s get it made in Boston or New York later this summer.”

Quigley ended a 16-month ring exile with the impressive win over Mosley Jr, an outing that represented his best performance since ditching the amateur vest in 2014.

Last January, Andrade stopped Dubliner Luke Keeler in the ninth round and is unbeaten in 30 fights.

The 33-year-old has held the WBO middleweight title since a 2018 win over Walter Kautondokwa in Boston.

Quigley, who remains keen to establish a foothold on America’s east coach, where Andrade is based, added: “He is an avoided fighter. He doesn’t get a lot of people calling him out, a lot of the big guns don’t really want to fight him because he is high risk with little reward.

“If the opportunity came along and I got offered the Demetrius Andrade fight it would take a hell of a lot for me to turn that down.”

Were a bout with Andrade not to come off, Quigley would be keen on Jaime Munguia, who defended the WBO Inter-Continental belt when stopping Kamil Szeremeta at the weekend in El Paso or Gabriel Rosado, who relaunched himself with KO of Bektemir Melikuziev on the same card.
