Donegal’s beach lifeguards are taking up full-time patrols on some of the county’s most popular beaches from today.
Thirteen beaches will now have lifeguards in place every day throughout July and August.
They are: Bundoran, Rossnowlagh, Murvagh, Fintra, Portnoo/Narin, Carrickfinn, Killahoey, Marblehill, Downings, Portsalon, Rathmullan, Culdaff and Stroove.
Bundoran and Rossnowlagh beaches have had full-time lifeguarding from 1st June, with posts at all other beaches at weekends only during June. This now turns to full-time at all designated beaches.
Lifeguards patrol Bundoran and Rossnowlagh beaches between 11am and 7pm and all other beaches from 12noon until 6.30pm.
Fifty nine beach lifeguard recruits underwent Water Safety Ireland (WSI) training and examinations earlier this year.
Last summer in Ireland, Lifeguards rescued 468 people, administered first aid on 3,450 occasions and reunited 251 lost children with families.
