A local GAA player was rushed to hospital after being seriously injured in a freak accident during a match in Glenfin last night.

The Reserve Division Two clash between Glenfin and Naomh Columba at Páirc Taobhoige was abandoned before half time after the Glenfin player sustained a suspected neck injury following an awkward fall.

He received immediate medical attention on the pitch from a paramedic attached to the home club.

The visiting Naomh Columba physio also provided assistance before the 41-year-old was rushed by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital.

A spokesman for the Glenfin club said the player is in some discomfort today, however, it is hoped his injury is not as serious as initially feared.

He also stressed that there was ‘no malice whatsoever’ on the part of the Glencolmcille player who collided with the Glenfin man.

The spokesman also paid tribute to the Glen players and officials for all their assistance following the incident.
