Man to go on trial charged with having child porn on computer at LYIT

A LETTERKENNY man will stand trial on child pornography charges, including  some files which he had on a computer at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

A book of evidence was served on Oliver Ferris (24) of Foxhills, Carnamuggagh. Letterekenny.

Ferris appeared for a brief hearing before Judge Deirdre Gearty at Letterkenny District Court. Dressed in a navy suit and tie, Ferris did not speak in court.

Ferris faces two charges under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

He is charged that on March 14, 2018 at Letterkenny Institute of Technology that he had in his possession 9 video files containing child pornography on a hard drive

He is further charged that on April 15, 2010 at Foxhills Carnamuggagh that he had in his possession child pornography 84 images and seven video files containing child pornography across three devices along with 43 URLs.

Gardaí gave evidence of the service of the book of evidence.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being forward for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which commences this week.

There were no Garda objections to bail with Ferris previously having had to surrender his passport.

He has to sign on twice a week at Letterkenny Garda station, that he stay away from any witnesses and that he provide a mobile phone number to be contactable by Gardaí at all times.
