Watch – Coastguard produce video to highlight pier parking danger

Frustrated at motorists continuing to block pier access for their lifeboat, Mulroy Coast Guard have produced a video to highlight the dangers.

Despite their high-profile ‘think before you park’ campaign, vehicles were again abandoned on the slipway at Downings Pier this week.

They can clearly be seen parked inside the yellow box there.

The top image shows unblocked access to the slipway. However, a van can be seen obstructing access (below). The lifeboat is being pulled by the red tractor.

Watch the video on the Mulroy Coastguard Facebook page here.

“For the purpose of this video, we parked cars in the yellow box to show how every car parked costs us vital seconds getting launched. Our only mission is to save lives,” a spokesperson said.

“If you can keep the box clear, we might not be Too Late. The difference between life and death can be seconds, please be mindful where you park.”

Concerns over illegal parking at the pier were raised at this week’s Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting.

Donegal County Council’s Roads Department agreed to follow up on the issue with local Gardaí.
