A Donegal mum who survived breast cancer and her son, a former Donegal Senior player, teamed up with pals to raise an amazing €3,800 in this year’s Donegal Ultra 555.
Luke Keaney, his mum Deirdre Dillon, and friends Oisín Reid and Greg Doherty successfully completed the 555km Cycle Race earlier this month.
The feat was all the more impressive as it represented the breaking down of barriers for Luke and Deirdre. Luke has been cycling since a hip injury forced him to give up playing for Donegal and Four Masters. He has undergone five major hip operations. His mother Deirdre, since overcoming cancer in 2019, had been running a half marathon every month.
All their efforts were in aid of much needed counselling services at the Donegal Family Resource Centre, Donegal Town.
The team proudly presented a cheque to the centre this week.
