Buncrana in Co Donegal has recorded the highest rate of Covid-19 in the country again, with the incidence rate now surpassing 100.

240 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in the South Inishowen electoral area on the past two weeks.

The 14 day incidence rate is now 1073.1 per 100,000 population – seven times the national average.

The North Inishowen/Carndonagh area has Ireland’s second highest Covid rate at 848.9 per 100,000. There were 144 cases here in the past two weeks.

Hospital numbers remain low amid the spike in cases.

There were six patients with Covid-19 in Letterkenny University Hospital as of 8pm Thursday night. No patients with Covid-19 are in intensive care. No general care beds were available at the hospital, while three ICU beds were available at the time of the report.

Covid-19 rates increased in almost every local electoral area in Donegal in the past fortnight. See table below for details.

Letterkenny was the only area where the rate fell slightly, but it remains one of the ten worst affected areas in Ireland. The Lifford-Stranorlar region also has one of the highest rates in the country.
