Cllr McBrearty turning council meetings into ‘a circus’ – Blaney

Councillor Frank McBrearty has been accused by a fellow councillor of turning Donegal County Council meetings ‘into a circus.’

Cllr Liam Blaney was speaking after he raised ‘points of order’ on a number of issues relating to the mica scandal.

Cllr McBrearty asked why the last special meeting on mica was not open to the public.

He also asked why the council’s solicitor advised them to discuss, in camera, the purchase of five council houses in Buncrana.

“We are also being advised to discuss, in camera, putting protocols in place not to purchase products from companies that are known to have defective materials,” Cllr McBrearty said.

Cllr Blaney said, while he didn’t disagree with the majority of what the previous speaker said, it was not a point of order.

“These meetings are being turned into a circus. I have nothing to hide and will not be threatened by anyone. I also have little confidence in the Mayor (Cllr Jack Murray) in the way you started your term, allowing one individual to run the whole show.”

Sinn Fein Councilor, Gary Doherty, described Cllr Blaney’s comments about Cllr Murray as ‘terrible and very unfair.’
