A man who had a bench warrant issued for him after he failed to turn up in court told a Judge he forgot the court date.
Seamus Cooley from Buncrana, who was not legally represented, failed to turn up for his trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court last week.
After being subsequently arrested and brought before the court, he told Judge John Aylmer that he had forgotten the court date.
Cooley, who faces a charge of assault causing harm at Market Square in Letterkenny, had been ordered to sign on three times weekly at a Garda Station but had failed to do so on a number of occasions.
He told the court that he had to travel to Buncrana to look after his mother.
Judge Aylmer said he would remand the accused in custody overnight.
But Cooley agreed to sign on three times weekly at Lifford Garda Station. He was ordered to do so on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays between the hours of 9am and 7pm.
Also as part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to reside at an address at St Jude’s Court, Lifford.
The case was adjourned to the October sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
