Taoiseach: 72.4% of Irish adults now full vaccinated

TAOISEACH Micheál Martin says that 72.4 per cent of Irish adults are now fully vaccinated.

Martin noted that Ireland has now overtaken the UK in terms of percentage of the rollout.

“The vaccine rollout is continuing at great pace. Today we edged ahead of our nearest neighbours – a brilliant effort by everyone involved,” he said.

Walk-in centres opened this weekend to those over 16 who want to avail of a first Covid-19 vaccine dose.

A walk-in centre is operating at Letterkenny Institute of Technology at the weekend while another will be opened at Carndonaghn Community School on Monday.

Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, said:  “We have also seen how solidarity continues to be the hallmark of our response with young people across the country lining up to get vaccinated, both to protect themselves and to play their part in protecting the community.

“I strongly urge anyone eligible for a vaccine to come forward and avail of the opportunity as soon as possible.”
