A business owner who was stopped traveling at 168kph while rushing to meet a client has been fined €250.

Paul McCallion was traveling on the Main Letterkenny to Derry Road at Drumbarnett, Manorcunningham on July 30th last.

Letterkenny District Court was told that Gardai using a speed camera speed clocked the married father-of-three doing 168kph in a 100 kph zone in a 5 series BMW.

Solicitor for the accused, who was initially charged with dangerous driving, Mr Patsy Gallagher, apologised to the court for his client’s speed.

He said McCallion, aged 35 of Hollymount Park, Derry, runs a small electrical business employing two others.

On the day he was rushing to meet a client to carry out a job.

He added that his client was fully insured and had never been in trouble before and was deeply apologetic for his speed.

Judge Sandra Murphy noted the plea, the fact that McCallion had no previous convictions and was co-operative and reduced the charge to one of careless driving.

She fined McCallion €250.
