ERIN Fildara has told how she wants to make her late father proud in her football career.

Mick Fildara, who was a popular coach at Sea Rovers FC, died suddenly last December.

His daughter Erin has represented the Republic of Ireland at underage level and has been a regular feature in squads.

Now at Sion Swifts, the teenager is aiming to keep climbing the ladder.

“With my Daddy passing away in December, it’s something I want to go for and make him proud,” she said.

“That’s what he’d want to see me doing – playing football, something that I love.

“It’s in my aspirations to go on at senior level.

“At the minute I’m just hoping to break into that (Ireland) under-19s. The panel hasn’t been selected yet. I’m hoping to break into that. That’s the goal at the minute.”

Fildara played for Culdaff in the 2019 North West Women’s Super League before making the move to Sion Swifts.

The Inishowen woman is enjoying her time with the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership.

She said: “It was definitely a big step up from what I’m used to.

“It was just that I needed to challenge myself and it’s definitely a great league to do that in.

“Players come here to express themselves and show what they’re made of. That’s what Sion did for me. It’s a big commitment. i live about an hour away from the club and it’s travelling up here three times a week. It is a huge commitment, but it’s worth it to be up here playing.”
