People in Ireland will be treated to a spectacular meteor shower if skies clear tonight.
Tonight will be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower.
This event occurs every year and is considered the best meteor shower of the year.
If the weather is on our side, we should see around 20-times more shooting stars – or meteors – than a normal night.
The best time to watch is between midnight and 5am. No special equipment is needed, just find the darkest site with the best view of the open sky.
EarthSky.org said: “In a dark sky, you may see up to 60 meteors per hour at the shower’s peak. Will you see over 100 per hour, as in some years? Perhaps.”
