Two more homeowners resign from Defective Blocks Working Group

FIVE of the eight homeowners have now stepped down from the Defective Blocks Working Group.

Mayo homeowners Dorothy Keane and Josephine Murphy have become the latest representatives to resign from the group.

The Defective Blocks Working Group was established by Minister Darragh O’Brien.

Last month, leading Donegal Mica Redress campaigner Paddy Diver walked out of a meeting, saying: “What is the point in going through this?”

with Loren Devers and Jamie Lee Donnelly also stepping down, that leaves Donegal trio Michael Doherty, Ann Owens and Eileen Doherty on the grouping.

Ms Keane and Ms Murphy, in a resignation letter, said:

“We have not made this decision lightly.

“The one-sided dogmatic approach by the department and their failure to engage in a genuine manner to address the issues that urgently need to be dealt with leaves us with no choice but to step away.”

The group was set up following a protest in Dublin which attracted thousands of homeowners, who are demanding a 100% redress scheme.

A public demonstration is planed for Lifford, outside the Donegal County Council offices, on September 11.
