A NEW community digital hub is to be developed near the iconic Silver Strand Beach in Glencolmcille.

The new hub will be located in the former Malineg National School.

The horseshoe-shaped Silver Strand, with its famous 174 steps, is one of Donegal’s most picturesque locations.

The first floor of former school at Malinbeg, which has been most recently used as a community space, will now be converted into a new community digital hub.

Lift access is to be provided in the works.

Planning permission was sought by Brian O’Byrne on behalf of the Malinbeg Development Committee recently.

Last month, the Malinbeg hub was one of 117 digital hubs nationwide to benefit from an €8.8m government fund to encourage remote working with Donegal County Council receiving €250,000 for high-speed hubs at Malinbeg, Leghowey, Ray, Carrigart, Tory and Croaglin.
