Gardai in Co Donegal have seized two E-scooters.
The machines were seized after people were observed using the machines in Buncrana on Sunday night.
A Donegal Garda spokesperson said such machines are consider to be mechanically propelled vehicles.
Because of this, the spokesperson added “If an MPV is used in a public place, it is subject to all of the regulatory controls that apply to other vehicles.”
The spokesperson added that such scooters must be roadworthy, must be registered, taxed and insured.
The driver must hold the appropriate driving licence and must also wear a helmet, added the spokesperson.
“It is currently not possible to tax or insure e-scooters and so they are not considered suitable for use in a public place,” added the Garda.
They then referred all further enquiries to the Road Safety Authority website for the use of such scooters.
