A Donegal county councillor has warned people not to answer their phones if they don’t recognise the number.
Councillor Niamh Kennedy said there has been a huge increase in such calls.
But she pleaded with people not to put themselves under undue stress by feeling they must answer a call.
She suggested “If you don’t recognise a number then don’t answer it.
“Get someone to put in the names of the people you know and expect to get calls from into your phone so their name comes up on the phone rather than just an unidentified number.
“Don’t feel like you have to answer the phone, it’s your home in your private home, you pay for it.
“Don’t allow people to take advantage of you and try to steal from you.”
Councillor Kennedy received a huge response to a Facebook post offering advice on bogus calls.
One person said their calls start early in the morning and last all day.
