AS A FURTHER 23 countries have been removed from the Irish Government’s mandatory quarantine list, it has been confirmed that over 10,000 people have entered the system.
Mandatory Hotel Quarantine was introduced in March in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.
RTÉ report that 10,196 people have entered the system and there have been 3,376 appeals heard.
Figures show that there were 159 people who have absconded with 35 returned through the help of An Garda Síochána.
The Minister for Health has said that another 23 countries, including South Africa, India and Russia, have been removed form the list.
Mandatory hotel quarantine is for people who have no proof of vaccination or Covid-19 recovery when arriving to Ireland.
Regulations also require a negative PCR test for those arriving into Ireland from those countries.
The countries removed from the mandatory hotel quarantine list are: Bangladesh, Botswana, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Russia, South Africa, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe.
