Gardaí are piecing together details after two vehicles were burnt out in Bundoran yesterday morning.
A van and a car were destroyed in the blaze at the Riverwalk estate, which broke out at 4.50am in the early hours of Monday morning.
Examinations of the scene are pointing towards the fire possibly being started maliciously, gardaí say.
Significant damage was caused to a 152DL blue Mercedes van. The van, owned by a workman, contained valuable tools which were damaged beyond use.
The second vehicle, a Peugeot 206, was so badly burnt that all details were obliterated.
The fire was extinguished by the local fire service and technical examinations have been carried out. However, “investigating guards have really no clue as to what’s behind this,” said Sergeant Paul Wallace, the Divisional Crime Prevention Officer for An Garda Síochána in Donegal.
“It seems to be random enough but there’s nothing random if it’s malicious.”
Gardaí have conducted house to house inquiries and are now appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity from the night of the blaze.
