Donegal has Ireland’s second lowest uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.

83.5% of adults in the county have got the jab, compared to the average uptake of 92% across the country.

There have been 1,845 new cases of Covid-19 in Donegal in the past two weeks.

The Irish Independent reports that border counties have recorded the lowest vaccine rates. Monaghan has the lowest rate in the country with 81.9% uptake, with Laois having the third lowest.

Monaghan and Donegal also have Ireland’s highest Covid-19 incidence rates. As of 29th August, the 14-day incidence rate in Monaghan was 1547.6 and the rate was 1159.0 in Donegal.

Waterford has the highest vaccination rate in the Republic, with nearly 99% of adults over 18 having least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
