Youths suspected after portacabin damaged in Convoy

Gardaí are calling on parents to speak with their teens after an incident of criminal damage in the East Donegal village of Convoy.

The roof of a portacabin was damaged on the grounds of the Memorial Hall in the village last week.

The incident took place sometime between 5pm Wednesday 25th August and 9am Thursday 26th August.

Gardaí say they received reports of youths hanging around the area previously. Anybody who observed anybody at the hall or around that general area between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning is asked to contact Gardaí in Letterkenny on 0749167100.

This incident follows other reports of trespassing this summer, where youths have been reportedly hanging around vacant buildings around Donegal.

Garda Grainne Doherty is appealing to parents and guardians to make their children aware of the dangers and consequences of trespassing: “We’d like to remind parents and guardians to speak to young people and speak to them about the dangers involved especially – of climbing roofs of portacabins and such – and speak to them about the consequences of being caught trespassing and committing the offence of criminal damage”

Gardaí are also asking parents and guardians to ensure they know where their children and teens are at all times.
