IT has emerged that there are almost 20 consultant posts vacant at Letterkenny University Hospital.

The posts are across what has been described as a ‘range of medical and surgical specialities.

There are 19.3 whole time equivalent posts vacant in LUH at the moment.

A spokesperson for the Saolta University Health Care Group said that all posts are filled by a locus, apart from three whole time equivalent.

One WTE is expected to be filled by a permanent consultant in the coming weeks.

A recent board meeting of the Saolta group heard that these issues are arising at LUH ‘due to location’.

A spokesperson added: “Local recruitment campaigns are also underway to fill vacant posts on a locum/ temporary basis across all specialties, as and when required.”
