New sports medicine clinic up and running in Donegal

A new dedicated Sports Medicine Clinic will open its doors in Buncrana next week.

Activ Sports Medicine will be the first integrated Medical and Physiotherapy Clinic in the North West.

At the helm is Dr Frank Fogarty, a Sports Medicine qualified Doctor, and experienced Chartered Physiotherapist, Ellevyn Irwin.

With their skills combined, they specialise in the diagnostic assessment and appropriate investigation of injuries. They plan and manage a patient’s journey back to wellness with the most up to date evidence based treatment of all sports and exercise injuries, for all age groups.

Whether your injury is sports-related or otherwise, the clinic covers a wide variety of issues:

Ellevyn Irwin and Dr Frank Fogarty launch Activ Sports Medicine in Buncrana, with appointments being taken from 20th September

Meet the Team:

Dr Frank Fogarty, MICGP, MRCGP, MMedSc, DipMSK Medicine, FFSEM (Ire), FFWCSEM (Malaysia).

Dr Frank Fogarty

Dr Fogarty is an Inishowen based practicing GP/GP Trainer-Educator of 30 yrs+ experience. He is passionate about sports and exercise and focuses on promoting active living and healthy ageing to keep people as active as possible for as long as possible. From elite athletes to casual elderly walkers, Dr Fogarty studies and promotes best practices for general fitness, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation.

Dr Fogarty is the team Doctor with the Donegal Hurlers and has been involved over the years as both team Doctor and Consultant to various intercounty GAA (Offaly, Donegal) and Irish Premier league soccer teams (Finn Harps FC, Derry City FC).

Ellevyn Irwin – MSc. (Sports Physio), BSc. (Physio), BSc. (Econ), CSCS, MISCP, EXOS Performance Specialist, CORU Registered

Ellevyn Irwin

Physiotherapist Ellevyn Irwin has completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from UCD (2016-2018). She is currently studying to be an EXOS Performance Specialist. With a huge enthusiasm for sports, Ellevyn has worked with a number of elite athletes from Leinster Rugby, Donegal Senior Men’s and U20 G.A.A., Irish Senior Men’s International Basketball and Derry City F.C. Ellevyn combines her own sporting background along with her clinical experience while treating patients of all ages and abilities.

Aside from her clinical work, Ellevyn is an Assistant Lecturer in Sport in the Letterkenny Institute of Technology lecturing in Anatomy and Physiology, Health Promotion Practice and Health and Fitness Leadership.
