On Wednesday 13th of October from 2pm to 4pm, Different Strokes for Different Folks and DLDC would like to invite you to the ‘The Road Less Travelled’ – a story of Surviving Stroke and Thriving!
There will be a range of guest speakers on the day in the Silver Tassie outside Letterkenny. (Tea, coffee, scones and chat will be on the menu).
Participation in the Arts has been widely evidenced to increase better outcomes for stroke survivors and those living with long term changes to day to day life due to a neurological event.
‘An estimated 30,000+ people are living in the community with disabilities as a result of a stroke. This makes stroke the third biggest cause of death in Ireland and the biggest cause of acquired disability’ Source: Irish Heart Foundation. No one chooses to have a stroke.
As Stroke Survivors we take ‘The Road Less Travelled’ because we must. It is what we discover along the way, the people we meet, the turn our lives take, the resilience and support we find in our families, the joy in the unexpected things, the toughness of the journey, the darkness and the light.
We have found that as Stroke Survivors we can make a choice. In Different Stroke for Different Folks we chose to travel the path together, reach out to other stroke survivors and give support.
Come along to find out about Brain Waves an international Arts and Health project for those living with long term changes to day to day life due to a neurological event. Listen to those that have survived stroke and are Thriving!
On the day we will have representatives from support organisations talk us through their experiences.
As part of the day the new website will be launched and “Yellow Wood Arts” the arts arm of Different Strokes for Different Folks. So, if you are a Stroke Survivor come and join us to hear more on Wednesday 13th October and take a step towards THRIVING!
