Skywatchers across Donegal are getting excited with forecasts predicting good conditions for the arrival of the Northern Lights.
Walkers and photographers are eagerly awaiting the possible arrival of the aurora in our skies.
The dancing lights only appear when geomagnetic storms occur.
Skywatchers are now awaiting the arrival of a CME or Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun. A CME consists of the Sun’s plasma which is hurled outwards from an active region like a sunspot.
When this happen in our (the Earth’s) direction we experience geomagnetic storms of certain magnitudes.
The lovely thing that can occur is the Northern Lights and skywatchers across Donegal including well-known Buncrana man Adam Rory Porter have caught them (see above) magnificently in the past!
