Two people were injured when a jeep was involved in an incident with a group of cyclists in the Liscooley area of Castlefin yesterday.

One of the three cyclists had to be taken to hospital for non life-threatening injuries after the smash.

A second man was treated at the scene for his injuries.

The incident happened around noon between Liscooley and Castlefin.

The jeep was traveling in the opposite direction than the cyclists and had overtaken another car.

The cyclists, which were traveling in a single line formation, were forced to take evasive action and were knocked off their bicycles.

The jeep involved in the incident, which was towing a trailer, failed to remain at the scene.

Two ambulances and two Garda cars attended the scene of the incident.

One of the cyclists was taken to hospital by ambulance where he is being treated.

A spokesman for the Garda Press Office told Donegal Daily “Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of dangerous driving which occurred on the N17 near Carrick, Liscooley in Co.Donegal yesterday, 13th October 2021 at approximately 12pm.

“Two of the cyclists, both male, were injured following the incident. One of these received treatment at the scene while a second was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have camera footage to make it available to them at Letterkenny Garda Station 074 916 7100.”
