Work started this week on the construction of a new funeral home in the Twin Towns.

During the summer, Donegal County Council granted permission to Francis Marley of Marley Funeral Directors for the development adjacent to Navenny Car Park, Ballybofey.

The new home will consist of a single storey building to include a chapel of rest, office space and ancillary accommodation.

The proposed development also includes car parking facilities.

Joe Francie Marley founded the funeral service in 1978 in the parish of Glenfin. At this time he was in the car, bus and coach hire business.

However, when the local funeral director, Dan McMenamin, retired, Joe took over the business.

Joe then retired himself in 2010 and the business was continued by the well-known Marley family.

The business has expanded and they now provide funeral services for families in Letterkenny, the Finn Valley and surrounding areas. Marley’s also have a funeral home in Letterkenny.
