A well-known Donegal priest has given an iconic nightclub his blessing as it prepares to reopen for the first time in ten years.
The Dodge Venue in Gaoth Dobhair will open its door tonight for the first time in more than a decade.
Shane Barr, grandson of the late Dom Barr, who ran the Dodge Nightclub and the Hotel Glenveigh complex for years, is taking charge of the once famous venue.
Shane says he has big plans to develop the hotel and become a venue for live music acts.
Fr Brian Ó Fearraigh was at hand last night to witness the installation of the new sound and lighting system before he blessed the new facility.
He wished Shane and the Barr family the best of luck with their new business venture and promised to call in from time to time!
Fr Ó Fearraigh told Donegal Daily: “As Club Dodge is set to open, it is a delight to offer Shane and the Barr family congratulations and continued success with this new venture, which will create a much-needed boost, by bringing new employment opportunities to our community. This new venue will provide entertainment, music and lots more, for people looking for a fun night out. As covid-19 restrictions are eased, it is important that people continue to be considerate and mindful of their personal safety and that of others.”
There are 19 bedrooms in Hotel Glenveigh, two live music venues, bar, restaurant, dining room, kitchen facilities and a large function room.
The Barr family are also the proprietors of Seán Óg’s bar and restaurant in Gaoth Dobhair.
