Liam Mullan is normally a mackerel man.

The adopted Rathmullan man spends a lot of time on the pier passing the time at his favourite hobby.

But today was a very different day when Liam landed the monster of all fish – a 90kg Common Skate.

Derryman Liam, whose daughter Kayleigh Fulton lives locally, could hardly hide his delight.

Popular Liam spends a lot of time helping young children perfect the art of angling on the local pier.

Now he has another story to tell locals about the huge skate that didn’t get away!

One local said “I’ve never seen a skate so big here in my fifty years down at the pier. It was the size of a car bonnet.

“And the smile on Liam’s face was just as big. Everyone is delighted for him.”

And like the decent fisherman that he is, Liam released the huge fish to fight another day.
