Gardaí have launched crime prevention patrols and checkpoints in Donegal following a spate of burglaries across local towns.
A shocking nine incidents have been reported in recent days.
A large quantity of cash, jewellery, clothing and electrical goods were stolen in the burglaries in Letterkenny, Donegal Town, Ballyshannon and Bundoran. Three houses on the same estate were burgled in Bundoran.
Roadside checkpoints and patrols are being launched day and night, gardaí confirmed.
A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, incidents of burglaries are on the increase and we encourage everybody to report any suspicious activity/people/vehicles in their area without hesitation.
“It is important that we look out for each other within our communities especially now as the evenings are darker that bit earlier.”
Gardaí say they have no evidence to say that the burglaries are connected in any way, but force was used to break into all the homes targeted in the raids.
Gardai have appealed for anybody with any information on the raids or who may have been offered items for sale to contact them.
