Donegal based group, Craoibhin Community Enterprise Centre, has launched a new digital time capsule service called ‘Not Forgotten’.

The digital time capsule will allow groups, organisations and individuals to store personal photos, videos and documents that can be kept for up to 300 years in a safe and secure digital preservation vault.

Located in Termon, the Craoibhin Community Enterprise Centre is the exclusive Irish promoter of the U.S based app Not Forgotten and the team at Craoibhin will offer support and assistance to customers of Not Forgotten throughout Ireland.

Using a digital dry vault that can be accessed at a specific date, or released in 50 years, Not Forgotten allows people to collect stories and priceless memories in one place.

Craoibhin Community Enterprise Centre has launched a new digital time capsule service called ‘Not Forgotten’. Craoibhin is the exclusive Irish promoter of the U.S based app and the team in Craoibhin will manage technical support to Irish customers. Fred Gallagher from Craoibhin spearheaded the project and he says Not Forgotten will allow old family memories to be enjoyed by future generations and presents a valuable opportunity for the community and voluntary sector to tell its stories and remember its heroes.

Fred explains: “Not Forgotten can store up to 20GB of files, which is the equivalent of say 10,000 photos. The Time Capsule can be opened at a date of your choosing, some important anniversary in the future or perhaps your 50th anniversary. It’s a valuable solution to the thorny problem of preserving memories for families, communities and businesses, who all want their story to be told. Volunteers are the backbone of any community, and their work needs to be both remembered and celebrated so this service will ensure it’s ‘not forgotten’.”

Adding to this Fred said: “The technology will also update so memories won’t get lost as technology progresses. It’s an ideal purchase for voluntary groups celebrating a milestone or for class reunions who want to save their memories and look back over time. To ensure a seamless process for customers, we trialled the service and it couldn’t have been easier to upload videos, images and documents. While the process is simple, we’re offering an added layer of assurance with our dedicated support team at Craoibhin who can talk customers through the process.”

GREAT GIFT IDEA

Mary Doherty, manager of Craoibhin Community Centre, says that the Not Forgotten Time Capsule is a great gift idea this Christmas: “If you’re looking for a novel gift for someone special, this is it! Grandparents could record special voice messages or take videos for future generations to discover and connect with them, and couples getting married can store their memories in the Not Forgotten vault so they can treasure it forever. You can fill your capsule with anything you like. As well as the many features of Not Forgotten you can also store information of your family tree so key details won’t be lost.”

Based in the Donegal Gaeltacht, Craoibhin is a community owned social enterprise which provides childcare services, co-working spaces, community education and training, e-bike rental, a community hall, gym and other leisure activities.
