A young Donegal boy’s action in calmly running for help after his family’s car crashed and ended up on its roof has been praised at the National Bravery Awards.
Caiden Sweeney was just 8 years old in November last year when his mum Maria and his two siblings were out in Castlefinn.
Suddenly a car which failed to halt at a stop sign struck Maria’s car.
The car struck the rear passenger side of Maria’s car and caused the car to end up on its roof.
The driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision.
Caiden managed to free himself from the upside-down car.
However, he didn’t panic as the others were screaming and crying and was able to run down the dark road barefooted to get help for the others trapped in the car.
For his actions, Caiden Sweeney was awarded a Certificate of Bravery at the ceremony at Farmleigh House on Friday.
