Amazing Rachel presents €1,300 ‘treat’ to Temple Street

An inspirational schoolgirl from Donegal has proudly donated €1,300 to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Rachel McCann, aged 7, held a Trick or Treat for Temple Street disco at Halloween to give back to the hospital that cared for her so well following an emergency last year.

Rachel fell ill in September 2020 and, after much anxiety, her family’s worst fears were confirmed – she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Rachel was then transferred to Temple Street in Dublin.

“While in their care Rachel received world class care from the neurological surgeons, the specialist neurological nursing team and the entire hospital community,” her mum Jennifer McCann told Donegal Daily.

This Halloween, Rachel invited all her friends from her class in Scoil Cholmcille, Greencastle, and the wider community to celebrate with her and raise money through the Trick or Treat for Temple Street campaign.

The generosity of friends and family and everyone who knew Rachel meant that she raised in excess of €1,300 – no mean feat for a 7-year-old girl.

Jennifer added: “We are so grateful to all the staff in Childrens Health Foundation for their care then and their continuing care and Rachel was delighted to present them with a cheque on November 15th.”
