Disappointment as Letterkenny lights switch-on is cancelled

The Letterkenny Christmas Lights Switch-on has been forced to go virtual again due to the pandemic.

A fun family-friendly event had been planned for Market Square this Friday night.

However, the Letterkenny Chamber has announced that the celebration can no longer be held in-person, in the interest of public health.

Organisers say they’ll be keeping spirits bright by sharing the big moment online.

“It is with huge disappointment that we have decided to cancel Friday nights Christmas Lights public switch on event,” said a statement from the Chamber.

“We have made this decision with a heavy heart but in light of high covid numbers in our community we felt it was more prudent to err on the side of caution to protect all our families in the lead up to Christmas.

“We know you will be as disappointed as we are but this is the right decision for our current times.”

Families are being encouraged to tune into the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page on Friday evening to join the event from the comfort of their homes.
