Motorists and pedestrians across Donegal have been warned the county is set to be hit by a cold snap from tonight.
Drivers have been asked to take extra care with road conditions likely to be hazardous in places.
Met Éireann is forecasting that tonight will be cold and mainly dry, but it’s expected that temperatures will fall to as low as -2C.
This will be combined with with mist, fog and frost.
Donegal County Council’s road safety officer Brian O’Donnell has pleaded with people to ensure their car is ready for the cold snap.
He also asked the public to remain safe when out walking.
“We launched our Winter Ready campaign last week and we stressed the importance of having car ready for such weather conditions.
“It’s looks like we’re going to get those conditions in the coming days and I would plead with people to vehicles roadworthy for such weather.
“They should always remember to leave plenty of time and space for braking and to slow down in bad driving conditions.
“We would also ask walkers and joggers to be well lit up and to be safe on footpaths and roads.
“Courtesy among walkers is also a big thing and we would appeal to walkers to travel in single file if others are passing and not to force others out onto the road,” he said.
