Letterkenny is looking merry and bright after a fun festive switch-on last Friday evening.
The event was much smaller than anticipated, but that didn’t stop one very special guest making an appearance!
Santa himself dropped into town to greet young fans at the Market Square and those at home who were watching a livestream of the celebration. The public switch-on was cancelled two days before Friday in the interest of community safety. But the Christmas spirit was shared widely online instead.
Lucky attendees on the night included children who won prizes in the annual Letterkenny Chamber Art Competition. Overall winner Cristofer Maniti from Scoil Cholmcille had the honour of lighting up the town this year. His winning design will also become a printed, limited edition ShopLK wallet.
Despite being a more scaled-back affair, Letterkenny’s Christmas lights switch-on brought a touch of Christmas magic to the town, marking the beginning of the festive shopping season.
