Donegal Library Service is delighted to announce their wonderful events programme for Family Time at your Library, which takes place online throughout December.

Family Time at your Library is part of the national Right to Read programme which supports a family-focused approach to children’s reading, with the aim of promoting reading as a fun, recreational activity for children, as well as part of your family’s daily time together.  We hope to increase awareness among parents and families of our services and resources for children.

With an excellent line-up this year, children have the opportunity to engage with local and national storytellers and cartoonists, the chance to construct a clay snowman, take part in arts and crafts activities, and test their knowledge with Christmas-themed quizzes. Families can also come together from the comfort of their homes for a Christmas pyjama party hosted by our wonderful Donegal librarians. All events are free of charge.

Donna Cavanagh, Senior Executive Librarian said: “Our online programme is accessible to all and we have a fun and exciting programme for you and your family to enjoy. With special guests along the way , Family Time at your Library promises to bring the magic of libraries into your homes throughout the month of December”

On Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd there will be clay snowman kits to collect from Leabharlann Phobail Gaoth Dobhair and Leabharlann Phobail Na Rosann. There will be 20 free kits available in each library so make sure you get there quick! An Irish language instruction video will follow demonstrating how to make your snowman and library staff will post photographs of your craft on social media.

On Saturday 4th join storyteller and artist Wayne O’Connor for an online interactive storytelling adventure where the kids contribute ideas and make the choices that determine how the story goes and even how it might end! Can they solve the mystery of the vanished reindeer? Expect lots of humour and fun in this session, and early booking is strongly advised.

On Sunday 5th at 6:30pm Librarians from Central Library Letterkenny will round up some favourite Christmas books to help you spread a little cheer and give you a chance to spend some quality time together.

From Monday 6th & Tuesday 7th call into Central Library & Milford Library to collect a Festive Favourites bag with a selection of Christmas books, activities, crafts and goodies. These are subject to availability and won’t be around for long so you have to be quick!

Tina Mation will be joining the fun on Saturday 11th at 11.00am for a live zoom drawing session.  Tina will show everyone how to draw her “bookworm” character followed by demonstrating how to animate the character on a book cover.

Get on your PJ’s and snuggle up together with your favourite toys, come together and wind down by listening to some festive favourites on Monday 20th at 7.00pm for our annual Christmas Pyjama Party.
