The Department of Health has been notified of 3,735 new cases of Covid-19.
There are 566 patients with Covid in hospitals, up 30 since yesterday.
Of those in hospital, there are 117 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units, a decrease of one from yesterday.
In Northern Ireland, the Department of Health has confirmed 1,405 new cases of Covid-19 and two more deaths related to the virus.
The latest figures come as the Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has said “we don’t know” if the new Covid-19 variant Omicron is present in Ireland.
Speaking on RTE’s The Week In Politics, the Minister for the Environment said: “We do a lot of testing and it hasn’t been picked up yet, as far as I understand.”
Mr Ryan said it will take two to three weeks before scientists can tell if omicron increases transmission, increases illness, or if it can get around vaccines.
He said what can be done now is for people to “double down” on existing public health advice.
