Councillor Nicholas Crossan has said Donegal is suffering from a new pandemic of drivers using foglights when there is no fog.
He told the Joint Policing Committee meeting that to have foglights on in cars during daylight when it is not foggy is illegal.
He said up to 40% of motorists are now engaged in such behaviour.
“It is unbelievable ad it is all over the country and not just in Donegal,” he said.
He added that it is like a new pandemic hitting drivers.
He appealed to drivers to stop it and ask if Gardai could do more to warn drivers about the practise.
He said driving behind a motorists with glaring lights on or driving towards them was very off-putting.
Garda Chief Superintendent Terry McGinn agreed and said she would follow up on the issue.
