Mountain rescue team urges hikers to stay at home

Donegal’s Mountain Rescue volunteers have called on hikers to put safety first and avoid the mountains during Storm Barra.

As high winds, heavy rain and snow strikes the country, conditions will be treacherous for people on high ground and at the coasts.

“As beautiful as our snow capped mountains look today, it may be best to enjoy them from afar in the comfort of your own home. Stay safe everyone,” said an appeal from Donegal Mountain Rescue.

“As storm Barra approaches, weather warnings have been issued across the country. Donegal has been given a status orange warning, with high winds and dangerous weather conditions forecast. Avoid high ground, as these conditions will only be more severe at elevation.”
