Donegal pub announces pre-Christmas break over Covid concerns

A Donegal pub is set to temporarily shut its doors next week to avoid the risk of staff having to isolate over Christmas.

Maddens Bridge Bar and Restaurant in Bundoran will close for two weeks from Monday 13th December.

Owners Declan and Gillian Madden say they’ve made the decision to avoid a repeat of last year when they had to self-isolate on Christmas Day.

“It is the last thing we wish to put any of our staff through, so we have decided to take a break and allow our team to catch up on some much needed rest,” they told customers.

The pub will reopen on 26th December.

In a Facebook notice, they said the decision was made in the interest of staff after a difficult two years: “While the past 22 months have brought challenges to all, our industry has been hit particularly hard. We are so proud of everyone on Maddens Team who has gone the extra mile in order to continue to prepare amazing food, drinks and offer our customers the very best service, however, we do have concerns about our staff working with the public on the lead up to Xmas Day.”

Management apologised to all loyal customers for the temporary closure, adding that they “look forward to being of service this weekend and again from the 26th.”
