Letterkenny Carol Trail goes ‘virtual’ this Christmas again

Letterkenny’s traditional Carol Trail service will be going ‘virtual’ for the second year in a row.

This unique festive event will take place on Thursday, 23rd December at 9pm and is organised by the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter and Letterkenny CDP.

A spokesperson for the event said that organisers had met a few weeks back and, because of the high Covid numbers, it was decided to hold the ‘Carol Trail’ online again.

They didn’t want to disappoint the many people who look forward to it, so they decided to go ahead with the event because it has become so popular in recent times.

“Because of the current Covoid19 regulations, we cannot gather physically at the different places of worship but we hope everyone will join us online in what should be a very memorable evening,” the spokesperson said.

The trail will begin with Christmas Carols and readings at Trinity Presbyterian Church, stopping both outside the Gospel Hall and at the former Methodist Church on the Market Square.

Then, there will be more carols and readings at St Eunan’s Cathedral before the carol service will end at Letterkenny’s oldest building, Conwal Parish Church at the top of the Church Lane where the evening will be brought to a close with a rendition of ‘O Holy Night’.

As the event is organised by Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter and Letterkenny CDP, it will be screened on their respective Facebook pages. The carol service is facilitated by Trinity Presbyterian Church, St Eunan’s Cathedral and Conwal Parish Church.

The bad news is that, unfortunately, this Christmas they cannot have the now traditional mince pies and tea in Conwal Parish Church Centre, but hope families units will have some themselves after the service ends.

“Hopefully, next year we will be returning to enjoying each other’s company,” the spokesperson added.

Organisers would like to thank Conwal Singers, Trinity Presbyterian Church Choir, singers Caitriona Murray, Jean Curran and Mane Evert, organists Denise Roper, Derek Fleming and Johnathon Durning along with all the readers. The Carol Trail has been produced by Wild Atlantic Productions.

This unique event promises to be a very special evening and hopes to give people the chance to take time and reflect on the real message of Christmas ‘goodwill to all’.

So, tune in online on Thursday, 23rd December and enjoy a very special virtual night in Letterkenny’s Cathedral Quarter.
