Vandals in Buncrana have been told to pay for damage to the town’s Christmas lights or ‘Gardai will sort it out.’

The warning came after the impressive lights were vandalised in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A spokesperson for the Buncrana Christmas Lights Committee said they know who the culprits are.

“Really sad to see….out this morning fixing a lot of damage caused by a few idiots to the town’s Christmas tree,” the spokesperson said.

“We have reported this to the Gardai and have CCTV footage. If you were responsible, contact us and pay for the damage, or we’ll let the Gardai sort it out in court and get your names in papers.”

In the video below, a youth can be seen climbing the Christmas tree.

Meanwhile, anyone wishing to support the campaign to make it the ‘brightest town in Ireland’, can log on to the Buncrana Christmas Lights GoFundMe page
